Winter 2012 Schedule

Please note that the format of some classes has changed this year, and all prices have increased - we kept them the same for many years, but finally it was time for a change!

If you're interested in one of the courses listed below, please call us as soon as you can to sign up - these classes fill up quickly.

"Under 18" Beginner Knitting Workshop
1 night - $25
PREREQUISITES: None
Note: all class materials supplied by the Shop

Monday March 12 with Shannon - 5:30-7:30
Whether you like the idea of making your own knitted gifts or you would like to progress past the garter stitch scarf, it all starts here.With this introductory seminar, we will be providing small, quick projects (a variety of cotton facecloths) which will test your skills. Due to the spectrum of ability that we expect to have in this course, class size is limited to 5 spaces.

Student can select whatever project they wish, to learn how to read a pattern and finish an article attractively.

Socks on Double-Pointed Needles
4 weeks - $60
PREREQUISITES: Have done basic knitting, know how to increase and decrease, have worked from a pattern before.
INSTRUCTOR:
Create your first pair of socks with fingering-weight yarn using 5 DPN, in the top-down method.

Thursday Nights with Lindsey - starts Feb 16

Socks on Two Circulars
3 weeks - $45
PREREQUISITES: Experienced knitter - know how to knit, purl, increase & decrease.
INSTRUCTOR: Bonnie

An innovative way to create socks - knit a sock with chunky yarn using two circular needles (top-down method).

Intermediate - Garment Class
5 classes - $75
PREREQUISITES: Have done simple projects such as toques, bags, mittens.
INSTRUCTOR: Bonnie

Dream of wearing your own hand-knit shrug, cape, shawl...or sweater? This class will enable you to do just that. You pick the pattern and yarn, and the instructor walks you through the project from start to finish. If you've already knit a sweater, pick something more difficult than you've accomplished in the past!
Note - this group meets bi-weekly.

Advanced - Knitted Lace
4 weeks - $60
PREREQUISITES: Fairly experienced knitter.

INSTRUCTOR: Lindsay
Love the look of lace but afraid to try it on your own? Then this class is for you! Lindsay will show you just how easy it is...and cover topics like provisional cast-on techniques, double decrease methods, reading charts, and special bind-off methods. This is not a project class; instead students learn techniques while making samples.

Advanced - Entrelac
3 weeks - $45
PREREQUISITES: Experienced knitter, know how to knit in-the-round on DPNs.
INSTRUCTOR: Bonnie

An introduction to knitting entrelac, the fabric with a woven look. Learn how to create a flat piece of entrelac, then how to adapt it to working in the round.

Advanced - Felted Bag or Fibre Trends Clogs
4 weeks - $60
PREREQUISITES: Have extensive knowledge of basic stitches and followed a pattern to make a shaped article.

By following a more complex pattern than you've tackled before (yarn and pattern of your own choosing), you'll learn to understand the symbols, abbreviations and shaping techniques used to create a structured object.

Advanced - Fair Isle Hat

Advanced - Felted Xmas Stocking
4 weeks - $60
PREREQUISITES: Have extensive knowledge of basic stitches and followed a pattern to make a shaped article.
INSTRUCTOR: Bonnie

Students will learn how to work in the round on DPNs, knit a fairisle design on the stocking cuff, and shape a sock heel & toe.

Advanced - Dominos & Double-Knitting
4 weeks - $60
PREREQUISITES: Experienced knitter.
INSTRUCTOR: Bonnie
In this 4-week session,you'll learn 2 advanced techniques. Two weeks will be spent on knitting mitres & connecting them "domino" style, and two weeks will be devoted to an introduction to reversible (two-faced) knitting.

Advanced Crochet - Techniques
4 weeks - $60
PREREQUISITES: Have tackld basic crochet projects in the past.

Topics covered will be aran crochet, hairpin lace, Tunisian & cro-hooking, working with beads, and Irish motifs (flowers and leaves).

"Project Help" Sessions

If you purchased your project materials at the Beehive, these help sessions are FREE! Give the Shop a call at 250-385-2727 to sign up for the session that works for you. Currently there are three options on Sunday afternoons:

Sunday:

If you need more extensive assistance with your project, there's also the option of a
Private (or Semi-Private) Session with an instructor! Flexible scheduling is available. Rates are as follows:
$25/hour for 1 student
$40/hour for 2 students
$50/hour for 3 students

 

Beehive's Friday Night Knitting!    FREE
Looking for a place to come and knit, chat, sip tea or coffee, and have some fun?!  Bring your own mug and your knit or crochet project, and join everyone at our big table!
NOTE:  This is very casual… NOT a class.

Friday Evenings - 5:00-7:30 pm



Charity Knit Group    FREE
Join us on Thursday mornings from 10:00-12:00, as we knit and crochet squares to be assembled into "bed toppers" for the Victoria Hospice Society, preemie baby hats, washcloths for Our Place shower stalls, and mittens for the Salvation Army. Feel free to bring your own charitable knitting projects too! It's an opportunity to sit with other knitters, drink a cup of coffee/ tea, chat, laugh...and give something back to the community. Please bring a pair of 4.5 mm needles with you. There is a City of Victoria parkade on Fisgard, just west of Douglas Street - we have "1st Hour Free" coupons.
